Capabilities

The Galileo Wheel allows for the benefits of wheels, tracks and intermediate mode for climbing high obstacles:

See Galileo MOOVE movie

Maneuverability - Wheel Mode: – Traveling on hard consistent ground with tracks reduces efficiency (and thus use of resources such as battery life or fuel), impairs the steering and causes premature wear and tear on the tracks. The ability to fold the track back into the wheel improves the efficiency, greatly improves the maneuverability and leads to a smoother ride.

Rough Terrain or Obstacles: Track Mode – Low friction, minimum surface area contact, and high pressure per contact point leads to slippage of the wheel, loss of traction and digging in place. Opening the track provides a much larger surface area contact and thus allows for ease of travel.

High steps: Intermediate Mode – A rule of thumb for the wheel is that it can climb an obstacle that is 50% of its diameter. Galileo’s Wheel can overcome obstacles that are 85% of its diameter in wheel mode and 200% in track mode.
